It’s a fortress that scares other soccer teams and a barrier that gives the offense protection. Usually this type of protection would be the goalie, but with No. 7 Baylor it goes beyond that. It’s the combination of the defense and the goalie.
Baylor is first in the Big 12 in part because of the combination between the hard-nosed defense and the effective play of junior goalkeeper Michelle Kloss.
No. 7 Baylor soccer’s ability was on full display against Missouri and No. 19 Texas A&M. The Bears only allowed one goal en route to a 2-1 win over the Tigers on Friday and a 0-0 draw against the Aggies on Sunday.
“It was as soulful performance,” Baylor co-head coach Marci Jobson said. “Soulful. As a coach, it blew me away. I couldn’t ask for more. We had chances and they had chances. That’s what it’s all about between two great teams. Overall, it was a great soccer match and I’m just proud of the Baylor Bears.”
No. 7 Baylor faced the toughest match of the season going up against No. 19 Texas A&M on Sunday resulting in a 0-0 draw. It’s the Bears first tie of the season as the Aggies and Bears engaged in an intense match. It’s Baylor’s for the first shutout in 14 matches.
Despite coming into the game without having lost to Baylor in program history, the Aggies came into the game with a different mentality as they faced a competitive Baylor team.
It’s going to be a tough task for No. 7 Baylor soccer to continue on an undefeated path this weekend as they travel to a hostile environment to take on Missouri and Texas A&M in College Station.
The Bears (4-0-0) will begin with a game against Missouri at 4 p.m. today and then face Texas A&M at 7 p.m. Sunday.
“I love coming up to weekends like this,” senior defender Kat Ludlow. “This is going to be one of the hardest weekends that we will have this season. They are two tough competitors and we’ve never beaten A&M, so it’s always great competition against them.”
The Baylor Women’s tennis team came up short on Wednesday night against 4th-ranked Texas A&M at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center. The Lady Bears took an early lead after winning the doubles point, but were unable to keep the Aggies from taking control of the match in singles play and securing the 4-2 overall victory.
“We definitely competed harder in that particular match than we have lately, but ultimately we still fell short,” head coach Joey Scrivano said.
Junior right-handed pitcher Max Garner has been stellar this season, but Garner is lucky to even be able to play this season.
Not long after the third pitch of the game left junior pitcher Courtney Repka’s hand, it was sent over the right field wall as No. 25 Baylor softball fell Tuesday in College Station to the No. 19 Aggies 10-2.
“Others receiving votes.” That’s where the Baylor baseball team was in the rankings to begin the season. A record of 35-7, including 24 straight wins, has changed the minds of voters around the country.
While the softballs used were not signed by the Great Bambino, the No. 25 Baylor Lady Bears played against No. 5 Texas like it was sand lot baseball.
No. 6 Baylor baseball will take its program-record 21-game winning streak to College Station at 7 p.m. today to take on the Texas A&M Aggies.
It has been less than two weeks and Baylor has reigned in yet another national championship.
