“It’s really like a big family when you start to get to know the athletes and all of the family members they have, and you just become a part of that group. They all really care about each other and they’re really supportive,” Hoeft said. “It’s a really nice environment to be in.”

Baylor students lined the walls of Russell Gym and cheered on six Special Olympics teams walking in behind their team’s banner.
To kick off the Area 12 Special Olympics basketball tournament at Baylor this weekend, the teams made a lap around the gym and enjoyed the cheers and applause from their fans before competition began.
Two men dressed like Bruiser and Bevo, the mascot of the University of Texas, jumped into a pool.
It wasn’t the start of a Big 12 brawl. It was the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics.
Twenty-eight people jumped into a pool at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hawaiian Falls Water Park in support of Special Olympics Texas. Hawaiian Falls Water Park is located at 900 Lake Shore Drive.
Special Olympics Texas will host the Heart of Texas Spring Games on Saturday at Connally High School in Waco.
Twenty-one can be a significant number to people. For some, it’s the legal drinking and gambling age. For others, particularly those involved in the military, there’s the 21-gun salute. This year, however, there’s the 21st celebration of Chilifest.
