The Korean language has course offerings but isn’t currently offered as a major, minor or certificate. Students say it continues to create barriers for those who wish to continue their language studies. Additionally, these frustrations extend to other languages, like Swahili and Portuguese.

During Dr Pepper Hour Tuesday afternoon, the Modern Languages and Cultures Department gave students the opportunity to learn about different cultures through languages.
“All in all, we want students to have a platform where they can express themselves in the language they’re learning,” Dr. Hajime Kumahata, director of the iMLC and senior lecturer in Japanese, said. “Because a lot of times language study is within the classroom and you just answer — but we’re trying to give students a platform to have fun.”
Born from a leadership seminar discussion, the department of modern languages and cultures launched its own podcast to reflect the diversity of the world it studies.
When they’re not in the classroom, Baylor professors from diverse academic backgrounds are pursuing their shared passion for jazz music by performing in quartets.
The Korean Student Association at Baylor hosted the Korean Culture Festival Friday night on a bigger scale than ever before.
