“The point of healthcare simulation is to help students have an opportunity to practice what they would do in actual clinical practice, so they have this safe space that is a controlled environment where they have an opportunity for instant feedback,” Tserotas said. “They’re able to take what they learn in practice, and they can take that to a clinical setting when they interact with their patients.”

Most college students spend four years at their respective university, participating in on-campus activities and campus organizations.

Baylor nursing students, however, do not have this luxury, as they are required to move to to Baylor’s Louise Herrington School of Nursing in Dallas after only two years of studying at the Waco campus.

Baylor is looking at the possibility of expanding the Baylor Louise Herrington School of Nursing in Dallas. The School of Nursing is located on the campus of Baylor University Medical Center, near downtown. Baylor University is not affiliated with Baylor University Medical Center.

Money collected by Baylor University’s Louise Herrington School of Nursing during the Communities Foundation of Texas’ North Texas Giving Day on Sept. 13 to fund existing scholarships could be awarded as early as this semester or next with disbursement occurring in the following semesters.

During Giving Day, a one-day event in which charitable donations to nonprofit organizations are partially matched by the Communities Foundation of Texas, more than $35,000 was collected for the school.

The Louise Herrington School of Nursing, located on the Baylor University Medical Center campus near downtown Dallas, prepares baccalaureate and graduate level nurses for their career, all within a Christian community. No scholarships have been awarded yet, although most of the money raised will go straight to endowed scholarships.

Bringing more than 30 years of experience in the field of nursing and nursing education, Dr. Shelley F. Conroy will fill the position of dean for the Louise Herrington School of Nursing starting Jan. 1. The announcement was made Wednesday.

Baylor’s Louise Herrington School of Nursing has received accreditation for its new nurse-midwifery program by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education’s Board of Review.
