History professor Dr. Daniel J. Watkins was just selected to be one of 20 members on the National Humanities Council for the 2025-26 academic year. Watkins and other members from 12 states will collaborate to plan and promote NHC resources for various universities and programs.

Baylor history professor Dr. Robert Elder is the first Baylor faculty member to be awarded the Public Scholars grant from the NEH to help his future book project about the nullification crisis, a conflict between South Carolina and the federal government in the 1830s.
The minor, which incorporates the study of the humanities into an examination of climate issues, now sports a wider array of courses and funding to facilitate student engagement.
Dr. Josh King, director of Baylor’s new environmental humanities minor, said the new environmental humanities minor has one simple goal in mind: to balance humanities and science to get a full look at climate change and inspire action.
Think about the opportunity that lies before you: the opportunity to experience a true liberal arts education. One day, years from now, you may be rounding in a hospital or working in a lab. Taking a few classes in the humanities isn’t going to prevent you from attaining that success. If anything, it will better you both personally and professionally.
