The university announced at the beginning of Baylor 2012 that it wants to reach Tier One status, which according to the Carnegie Classification system includes being classified as a Very High Research University.

The Baylor University Board of Regents met today to welcome new board members and approve both the 2012-2013 budget and the next strategic plan, Pro Futuris.
Baylor administrators gave students a chance to offer feedback and ask questions about the university’s draft strategic plan Tuesday at a town hall forum hosted by student government.
Baylor released its first public draft of its strategic plan on Dec. 12, and, as expected, its goals mirror that of the Baylor 2012 vision. The draft plan’s new approach, however, varies from Baylor 2012 in that the initial plan lists six broad goals but does not list specific measures to be taken toward those goals.
