After three grueling hours of competition, Baylor Army ROTC cadets overcame the cold and rain to defeat the Air Force ROTC cadets in a series of physical events and claimed the prestigious President’s Cup on Wednesday.

After a day of training on a high ropes course just off campus Thursday, Baylor Army ROTC cadets will once again be out of their typical environment this weekend as they attend field training exercises at Fort Wolters in Mineral Wells.

They will work with cadets from Texas Christian University and the University of North Texas, practicing skills they will need to know as leaders in the military.

Air Force ROTC, Army ROTC and Veterans of Baylor will host a Veterans Day vigil at 11:30 a.m. today on Fountain Mall.

The ceremony will begin with an address from former United States Army veteran Dr. Curt Nichols, who is a West Point graduate and a political science professor at Baylor. The ceremony will continue with a presentation of the colors and flag-folding ceremony. “We want people to realize Veterans Day still happens every year, and understand that we have lost 2 million soldiers since 1917, which most people don’t realize,” Sherman senior Rachael Harrelson said. “Currently there are 430,000 in service members.” Harrelson served in the Navy for eight years.

Thursday was Diadeloso, the one day of the year every student looks forward to. Filled with warm Texas weather, relaxation and entertainment, Dia provides students with a time to celebrate being a Baylor Bear.

Army ROTC defeated Air Force ROTC Wednesday to win the President’s Cup, a highly coveted trophy awarded to the winner of a series of grueling competitive events.

Baylor students and visitors on campus should expect to encounter a massive gathering of student organizations and even watch a game of Quidditch at Fall Premiere this weekend.
