Ensuring that the next generation of teens prioritizes their safety and has a healthy relationship with alcohol can only be done if proactive measures are taken now. Alcohol is such an integral part of American culture, meaning telling teens not to experiment with it until they are 21 is the same as taunting the forbidden fruit.

It’s 9:05 a.m. on a Monday. You take your seat in your first class and get ready for at least three surface-level class friends to ask how your weekend was. But while you hear others rattling off the frat parties they went to, you have nothing to talk about except a movie marathon, homework and more than one late-night trip to the Grease Pit — and that’s just fine.

College is a time for new experiences. However, new experiences can also mean new mistakes.

With a never-before-had freedom, fun can quickly turn into foolishness—especially when alcohol is involved.

A Minor in Consumption (MIC) can be issued to anyone caught drinking under the legal age of 21. It is classified by Texas law as a Class C misdemeanor.

Baylor Police Chief Jim Doak said MICs are issued constantly throughout the school year. In some cases, students are arrested before school even begins.

There’s an old joke that goes – Jews don’t recognize Jesus as the Messiah, Protestants don’t recognize the Pope as head of the church, and Baptists don’t recognize each other in the liquor store.

As funny and exaggerated as that last line is, it does hold an element of truth. In many areas of the Protestant faith, not only Baptist, there is a sort of “see no evil” mentality. A preacher can drink a beer after the ball game on Saturday as long as he serves grape juice for communion on Sunday.
