With a Tuesday night win over UT Arlington, the Bears (23-13, 6-9 Big 12) officially exceeded the win totals from the previous two seasons under Thomson (20 and 22, respectively). But after exploding for 18 runs on Saturday against Texas Tech, more than the team had scored in its previous six games combined, a 5-0 lead vanished on Sunday and the green and gold dropped their fourth Big 12 series.

Men's Basketball
The fourth-seeded Bears (27-7) will open their tournament run against No. 13 seed Grand Canyon, a squad riding a 30-game winning streak, at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Foster Pavilion. Friday will mark the first matchup between the two teams with the longest active winning streak in Division I on the line for the Antelopes (32-2).
Led by 5-foot-10 point guard Josh Hubbard, head coach Chris Jans’ double screen-heavy attack is balanced and dangerous.
Heading into the Big Dance, Wright leads the team in assists per game (4.3) and is third on the team in points per game (11.3). Wright holds the program record for assists as a freshman with 143 and counting. He also set the freshman record for most assists in a single game, dishing out 13 in a 94-69 win over Norfolk State on Dec. 11.
Women's Basketball
Senior center Aaronette Vonleh dropped a career-high 37 points to pull No. 2 Baylor women’s basketball past No. 3 Oklahoma State 84-74 in overtime in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship semifinals Saturday night at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Mo.
Nicki Collen picked up her 100th win as the head coach of the second-seeded Bears as her team led for 38 1/2 minutes. The green and gold turned the seventh-seeded Cyclones over 22 times which led to 20 points off turnovers and countered sophomore center Audi Crooks’ 32-point outburst.
After falling in a winner-take-all regular-season finale, No. 2 Baylor women’s basketball is set on claiming the Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship. Earning a double bye, the Bears will start the journey in the quarterfinals against No. 7 Iowa State at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Mo.
Equestrian
Following its Green & Gold Scrimmage on Friday, Baylor equestrian is ready to kick off its season against Texas A&M at 1 p.m. on Sept. 29 at the Hildebrand Equine Complex in Bryan-College Station.
From familiar foes to new faces, the 2023-24 Big 12 season will be filled with first times and last times, meaning the Baylor Bears are in for potentially one of the most hyped seasons of all time.
“My goal was just to have fun, no pressure at all, and that’s what I went out and did,” Callaway said. “It was a good last ride. I’m so glad that I was able to experience my five years at Baylor.”
Tennis
No. 17 Baylor men’s tennis opened conference play with a 4-0 sweep of Arizona State Friday night at the Hurd Tennis Center.
After sweeping a doubleheader last weekend, No. 14 Baylor men’s tennis looks to continue its hot stretch in another doubleheader Sunday at noon against Cornell and at 6 p.m. versus Lehigh at the Hurd Tennis Center.
Growing up in Raleigh, N.C., Baylor men’s tennis head coach Michael Woodson was not interested in playing tennis until the seventh grade when his mom convinced him to pick up a spare racket and try out for the junior varsity team.
Golf
“It was certainly not the week we were looking for, but I saw glimpses of what this team can be,” McGraw said. “Now it’s time to get home and clean up a few things and get back after it in Cabo.”
“We prepared, we’re excited, we’ve waited and now we’re getting ready to go compete,” McGraw said.
The most exciting news for the Big 12 in recent years has been the addition of new teams to the conference. Despite the loss of Texas and Oklahoma, a massive introduction of eight other teams makes up for it. However, the question is, how has conference realignment affected Big 12 sports, big and small?
