The mission trip is hosted by CURE International, a non-profit Christian organization that operates charitable hospitals and programs in 29 countries worldwide. The destination for the service team will be the CURE Hospital in Kenya, an affiliated hospital that performs over 1,500 life-changing reconstructive and orthopedic surgeries for children suffering from treatable disabilities.

When Dr. Bonny Cain was in school she was the kid who fed on education. New knowledge was her lifeblood, extra worksheets were sweeter than dessert and going to college was inevitable.

The nation has been exposed to numerous methods to lose weight and educated on the importance of healthy lifestyles and diets, but with this overload of information, many people don’t fully understand what to do. On Saturday the Smithson Chiropractic and Nutritional Healing Center team will host a free natural health improvement event to address this problem.

“Any kind of medical volunteering is very highly considered by medical schools, especially if you’re investing so much time,” Selkin said. “A week may not seem like a long time, but you are investing a week of your summer to go to a foreign country, probably somewhere that you’ve never been before, maybe a language that you don’t speak. That is a great chance to talk about cultural immersion and diversity. It’s a great opportunity to expand not only what you know but to see what else is out there.”
