The BU Women’s Colloquium, an advocacy group founded by six female faculty, will mark its 10-year anniversary after being officially affiliated with Baylor since 2012.
Esther’s Closet, a local self-sufficiency program aimed to equip women and children to escape poverty, held its annual Women of Distinction Luncheon on Tuesday at the Waco Convention Center.
The event mainly included tabling for multiple organizations. However, it also featured free food from Fuzzy’s Tacos and Helados La Azteca, as well as music, dancing and Lotería — a traditional Mexican game.
“The blood that’s donated here at Carter BloodCare stays local,” Shipley said. “So you’re potentially helping a family member, friend, neighbor or anyone in your community that might need blood. That’s who you’re giving for.”

Due to deteriorating weather conditions during the morning hours, Baylor University will close at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, Feb. 9).
The Texas Department of Transportation hosted a final public hearing Thursday night on the construction of two new frontage road bridges over the Brazos River, which runs parallel to University Parks Drive in Waco. The bridges will span between University Parks Drive and Martin Luther King Boulevard on Interstate Highway 35.
