“Sports aren’t just games,” Dr. Paul Putz said. “They’re places where people wrestle with questions of meaning, purpose and faith. My hope is that this book helps readers see how deeply connected those worlds really are.”
The Memorial, which was recommended by the Commission on Historical Campus Representations in 2020, addresses Baylor’s historical relationship with slavery. It recognizes the university’s construction through enslaved labor and Judge R.E.B. Baylor’s own possession of enslaved people, while continuing to acknowledge all parts of Baylor’s story.
As the first wellness-focused TED-style presentation ended, the afternoon’s message was clear: the art of performing begins with taking care of the performer.
A Night Under the Stars, which takes place on the evening of November 7 at Fountain Mall, will feature eight performances with live voting from the audience, an array of food trucks, and a premiere of “A Celebration of Everlasting Color,” an hour-long feature film created entirely by Baylor students. But before the event became a reality, it dealt with questioning when seeking approval and funding. And for good reason.

Testimony began last week for the trial of Tammy Renee Blankenship — a former Midway ISD administrator accused of killing Baylor student David Grotberg in a hit-and-run on the evening of Oct. 6, 2016.

Senate Bill IV was signed by Gov. Greg Abbott on Dec. 18, 2023. The new law clamps down on illegal immigration in various ways, but its largest impact is making illegal immigration a state crime in Texas. Two months before taking effect on March 5, the law has been met with opposition. The U.S. Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against the state of Texas on Jan. 3.

As Election Day nears on Nov. 4, Texans will vote on 17 proposed constitutional amendments, most related to taxes. Dr. Paul Mason, Baylor accounting professor, said many aim to help specific groups but come with financial trade-offs.

“Parents have a significant impact on the value system and the ideological system that children develop over time. We’re all impacted by the messages that we hear growing up in our parents’ home,” McAninch said.
Ramsey is a sophomore from Waco studying economics and international studies in Arabic. Ramsey went to Amman, Jordan, with Qasid, an Arabic Institute Program running from June through August. But she didn’t suspect the challenges and conflicts that would occur in the coming days.
Although the war seems like it could be worlds away, it impacts Baylor students in a more personal way than most generally assume — particularly in the grocery store runs, Stolze said.
“Any kind of medical volunteering is very highly considered by medical schools, especially if you’re investing so much time,” Selkin said. “A week may not seem like a long time, but you are investing a week of your summer to go to a foreign country, probably somewhere that you’ve never been before, maybe a language that you don’t speak. That is a great chance to talk about cultural immersion and diversity. It’s a great opportunity to expand not only what you know but to see what else is out there.”
