“If something sounds interesting to you and someone needs help and you have the capacity to help, help because you might find your passion,” doctoral candidate Kelsey Sparks said.
“When students see themselves reflected in Baylor’s history, it strengthens their identity, their sense of belonging and their connection to the university and to one another,” said Dr. Elizabeth Rivera, university archivist and associate librarian.
“In a way, it’s not a typical service where you have a straightforward worship leader and somebody guiding the entire service,” Wylie sophomore Aaron Cash said. “We do have structure to kind of just keep us going, but really it’s a space for people to come and worship together and to bring their own songs.”
For decades, two bears have been the face of Baylor. Saturday, the latest additions to that legacy, Judge Indy and Belle, celebrated their third birthdays.

“The number one thing is, be informed and know your rights,” Alvarado said. “Don’t believe everything you see on social media –– a lot of people trying to do good end up spreading false rumors, and that just spreads fear in the community.”

In a Central Texas city like Waco, immigration policies are likely to impact a large portion of the population, and fear surrounding the Trump administration’s actions is real. Though raids have been carried out by federal officials in San Antonio and Austin, as of now, Waco PD says that they have not been contacted by ICE.
Dr. Eric Ames, associate director for advancement, exhibits and community engagement at Baylor’s Texas Collection, said in an email that this tour gives people a chance to view Waco history at a ground level through the streets of downtown as well as through the viewpoint of the Black experience.

“Parents have a significant impact on the value system and the ideological system that children develop over time. We’re all impacted by the messages that we hear growing up in our parents’ home,” McAninch said.
Ramsey is a sophomore from Waco studying economics and international studies in Arabic. Ramsey went to Amman, Jordan, with Qasid, an Arabic Institute Program running from June through August. But she didn’t suspect the challenges and conflicts that would occur in the coming days.
