Baylor volleyball couldn’t close out its Big 12 contest against No. 23 Kansas State Saturday night and dropped three straight sets to lose the match 3-2 at the Ferrell Center.

The 2014-15 season began with a 101-60 victory for the No. 8 Lady Bears Friday night at the Ferrell Center over the Oral Roberts University Golden Eagles. After a strong showing in the team’s second exhibition game last week, sophomore forward Nina Davis continued her good form, leading the Lady Bears with 22 points and 10 rebounds Friday night.

Baylor volleyball plays its second of four straight home matches today, and will need to have a strong showing in its remaining five games for a NCAA tournament berth. The Bears (13-13, 3-8 Big 12) have not been selected for the tournament since 2011.

Sophomore forward Nina Davis, freshman guard Kristy Wallace shined and junior post Kristina Higgins shined in the No. 8 Lady Bears’ exhibition game versus Tarleton State on Monday night at the Ferrell Center. It was the second of two exhibition games ahead of the Lady Bears’ 2014-15 regular season. The Lady Bears defeated the TexAnns 102-41.

Shootout heartbreak marked the end of No. 7-seeded Baylor soccer’s season at the Big 12 Conference Championship Tournament against the No. 6-seeded University of Oklahoma on Friday in Kansas City, Kan. The Bears were ousted by a recurring theme this season – stout defense and an ineffective offense.

No. 12 Baylor football sophomore receiver Corey Coleman and freshman kicker Chris Callahan were named Big 12 Players of the Week on Monday following the team’s 48-14 win against No. 15 Oklahoma in Norman on Saturday.

This game is far from over in Norman, Okla. After a very competitive half, No. 12 Baylor football leads Oklahoma 24-14 in their final conference road game of the season.

It’s no secret; Baylor has had Saturday’s game circled on its calendar since the beginning of the year. Despite whipping the Sooners 41-12 in the meeting between these two teams last season, Oklahoma was picked to win the Big 12 by the media.

Baylor soccer is just two wins away from a Big 12 Tournament Championship after a stunning 1-0 upset over No. 2 Oklahoma State on Wednesday. Three of the four Big 12 Tournament matches on Wednesday saw the lower-seeded team win. The only higher-seeded team to make it out of the first round was No. 1 West Virginia with a 2-1 win over TCU.

In the dawn of a new era for Baylor women’s basketball, the No. 8 Lady Bears downed Midwestern State University 99-56 in an exhibition game at the Ferrell Center Tuesday night. For many newcomers to the team, the game was a chance to get valuable playing time before the regular season. For head coach Kim Mulkey, it was an opportunity to test her players in different spots on the floor.

No. 10 Baylor football raised $6,146 through its inaugural Touchdown Pledge Drive with its Uplifting Athletes chapter to raise money for cerebral palsy research on Saturday. The touchdown pledge was the team’s second fundraising event for cerebral palsy in 2014.

Baylor women’s cross country finished third and the men’s team finished sixth at the 19th annual Big 12 Cross Country Championships in Lawrence, Kan., on Saturday. In addition, three Lady Bear runners garnered All-Big 12 honors- senior Rachel Johnson, senior Mariah Kelly and sophomore Maggie Montoya.

Baylor men’s basketball returns to the Ferrell Center on Nov. 14 in its first game for the 2014-2015 season. The Bears bring with them a new team and new attitude, but one thing is constant: they want to make the NCAA tournament.
