The No. 20 Baylor women’s soccer team certainly found a flair for the dramatic over the weekend after two nail-biting victories over conference foes Texas and Iowa State.

Friday’s victory over the Texas Longhorns came in double overtime, but not after some late-game drama. Senior forward Dana Larsen scored what appeared to be a game-winning goal in the 80th minute of the game.

Larsen fired a shot from about 30 yards away. The ball landed in front of Longhorn freshman goalkeeper Abby Smith. It appeared as though Smith would make a routine save, but the ball took an odd bounce and went over Smith’s head and into the goal.

The Baylor Bears volleyball team defeated TCU in an epic, hard-fought match that lasted all five sets. The Bears won 23-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-18, 15-13 to earn their second Big 12 conference victory.

“We just did not have our ‘A’ game tonight,” head coach Jim Barnes said. “We were really struggling in every facet of the game but we were fighting through it is what I liked. We were fighting and our defense and our blocking picked up just in time to turn the match around. Especially the blocking. I thought [Adri] Nora did a great job hustling and getting blocks. We made enough digs there at the end to get the win.”

The No. 20 Baylor women’s soccer team will take on I-35 rival the University of Texas Longhorns at 7 p.m. Friday at home. The Bears are 11-1-4 on the season with a 2-0-3 conference record, but will look for their first home conference win since September 28.

The No. 20 Baylor women’s soccer team had a tough road test this past weekend, taking on the No. 25 West Virginia Mountaineers on Friday night and Oklahoma State on Sunday afternoon.

Road victories are hard to come by in Big 12 play, but the Bears did come away with two draws.

The Bears are now 11-1-4 on the season, and 2-0-3 in Big 12 play.

The Baylor volleyball team earned its first Big 12 Conference win on Wednesday night against Texas Tech. After facing four consecutive ranked opponents and starting the season 0-4 in conference, the Bears showed resiliency and earned a victory against Texas Tech at the Ferrell Center.

The No. 20 Baylor women’s soccer team will travel the country roads to Morgantown, W.V. to take on the No. 25 West Virginia Mountaineers.

The Mountaineers are 9-3-3 on the season and 5-0 in Big 12 play. They have not lost a game since Aug 31, but the Bears’ unbeaten streak stretches back to Aug. 26.

There are no easy games in conference play.

The No. 25 women’s soccer team has played three conference games so far, and all of them have come down to the wire.

The most recent game was a 3-2 win over Texas Tech to move the team to 11-1-2 overall and 2-0-1 in conference play.

The Baylor Bears moved to 10-1-2 on Friday night with a 1-0 victory over conference foe Kansas. Baylor is now 1-0-1 in conference play. Senior midfielder Lisa Sliwinski had the only goal of the game.

The Baylor women’s soccer team will take on Kansas at 7 p.m. Friday in Waco.

The Jayhawks, like the Bears, recently dropped out of the top 25 on NCAA.com, so the competition should be stiff.

The Jayhawks are a very possession-oriented team.

The Baylor Bears volleyball team is in the middle of a brutal stretch of Big 12 Conference play that includes three straight ranked opponents.

Last Saturday, the Bears faced No. 19 Iowa State in Ames and lost. On Tuesday, the No. 9 Texas Longhorns defeated the Bears.

This Saturday the Bears take on No. 15 Kansas State at 7 p.m. at the Ferrell Center.

The Baylor soccer team will take on two Texas teams this weekend. The first game will be 7 p.m. today at home against the SMU Mustangs.

The Bears are 6-1-1 on the season and are receiving votes in the polls.

The Baylor women’s soccer team returned from its road trip with a win and a draw.

The first game was a 0-0 draw against the North Texas Mean Green. North Texas is undefeated on the season, so the Bears expected a tough game.

Against Arkansas State on Friday night, the Bears dropped their first set to the Red Wolves before winning the next three sets to take the match. While this tournament is used as a bit of a tune-up before Big 12 competition starts, head coach Jim Barnes still wants to see the team start stronger in the future.

The Baylor volleyball team has been busy traveling lately.

After being in Hawaii last weekend, the team is now in Louisiana for four games in two days in the Big Daddy’s Invitational.

The Baylor women’s soccer team will travel to Denton and San Antonio this weekend on their second road trip of the season.

The Bears protected their house last weekend against Nebraska and McNeese State, and they will look to do the same against the University of North Texas and The University of Texas at San Antonio.

North Texas started the season 6-0, though it has yet to play a team ranked in the top 25.

The Baylor volleyball team swept Texas State 3-0 Tuesday night at the Ferrell Center.

Baylor started out the first set by quickly jumping out to an 8-4 advantage, forcing Texas State to call an early timeout.

Following the timeout, the Bobcats came out refocused and won the next two points, battling to even the set at 10 apiece.

Senior Alyssa Dibbern spiked the ball for a Baylor point.

After defeating Nebraska and McNeese State over the weekend, the Baylor soccer team moved to 5-1 on the season.

The women allowed just three shots in the two games and did not give up a goal.

The Baylor soccer team moved to 4-1 on the season with a 3-0 shutout of former Big 12 foe Nebraska. The Bears are now 2-0 at home this season and have yet to allow a goal on their home field.

While the volleyball team basks in the rays of Hawaii, the Lady Bears soccer team remains in Waco, looking to bounce back from its 2-1 overtime loss to No. 11 Long Beach State, at 7 p.m. today against Nebraska.

The Bears are in Honolulu this weekend for the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic.

Entrance to this tournament is invitation only, something Barnes said the program had to deny in the past.

“I’m glad we got another invitation,” Barnes said. “This is a great tournament to be in.”

Scoring is hard in soccer. If it were easy, more games would have football scores. Junior defender Kat Ludlow has made scoring a habit recently.

She has recorded two goals in four games despite playing defense.

Her key is to execute on set pieces.

Baylor volleyball’s current class of freshmen was rated as the No. 16 recruiting class in the nation by to Prepvolleyball.com.

With the infusion of freshman talent, the team needs veteran leadership to guide it through the grueling season.

Senior setter Kate Harris is the backbone of the team, and the team relies on Harris for her leadership and inspiration.

“She’s the heart and soul of this team,” Baylor head coach Jim Barnes said. “Hard work is her middle name. She’s always the first to practice and the last to leave.”

The No. 24 Baylor soccer team split the two games on its California road trip this weekend. The Bears won at Cal State Northridge on Friday night 2-1. Baylor then traveled to No. 15 Long Beach State and lost a 2-1 heartbreaker in overtime.

The Baylor volleyball team entered the Fairfield Inn North Baylor Classic with inexperience and questions. After going undefeated in three matches while playing as many as five freshmen at one time, Baylor volleyball has a platform of optimism to build from.

For the last two seasons, the Baylor volleyball team has made it to the NCAA tournament.
The incoming freshman class is ranked as the No. 16 recruiting class nationally.
Like most Baylor sports, volleyball is on the rise.
