Baylor baseball protected its home turf in a 2-1 series win over the No. 20 Oklahoma State Cowboys over the weekend with a 4-1 victory on both Friday and Saturday, but lost the chance at a series sweep with a 4-1 loss on Sunday. For a while, Whitney Canion could do no wrong. The sixth-year senior pitcher has been one of the best pitchers in collegiate softball since arriving in Waco, including being named an All-American in 2011. On Tuesday at Getterman Stadium, Canion displayed complete dominance on the mound.

While most Baylor students spent their spring break outside Waco, Baylor baseball was still hard at work, facing multiple opponents over the week-long vacation from classes.

Baylor entered the Big 12 Tournament as a seven seed, but with six minutes left in the championship game, the Bears looked ready to become an improbable Big 12 Conference tournament champion. The Bears came up just short, falling in the championship game 74-65 to No. 9 Iowa State on Saturday.

After a stellar regular season, winning a share of the conference title, and first place in the Big 12 championship tournament, the No. 5 Baylor Lady Bears have high hopes for the NCAA tournament.

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Lady Bears won their fourth straight Big 12 title Monday night after beating the West Virginia Mountaineers 74-71. Baylor was led by freshman forward Nina Davis, the youngest player in the starting lineup, in a back-and-forth, physical title game thriller that saw nine lead changes.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Baylor earned its fourth straight berth to the Big 12 tournament championship game after beating the Oklahoma State Cowgirls 65-61 on Saturday at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Okla. Baylor head coach Kim Mulkey also earned her 400th career win on Saturday.

OKLAHOMA CITY – In their opening game of the Big 12 championship tournament, the Lady Bears cruised past the Kansas Jayhawks 81-47. Baylor (27-4) faces Oklahoma State (23-7) at 2 p.m. Sunday in the semifinal. OSU beat Iowa State on Saturday 67-57.
