Baylor students will be challenged to “Change the World in a Day” by donating $10 to ILoveOrphans.com, Inc. February 5 to raise $40,000.

Divers found what may be the body of a missing construction worker Tuesday evening in the Brazos River behind the McLane Stadium building site.

Justice of the Peace Kristi DeCluitt arrived on scene at 8 p.m. and pronounced the person as dead at 8:17 p.m. The name of the man has not been released because a positive identity could not be confirmed on scene.

The deadline for students to apply to the Baylor Interdisciplinary Poverty Initiative summer internship and fellowship programs is Friday. Only five students will be selected on Feb. 7.

“I am very proud of the students that participate in the internships,” said Rosemary Townsend, the director of business affairs and community partnerships for the Initiative. “It’s been extremely popular. It’s a big part of what we do.”

Firefighters contained a house fire at 7:38 p.m. Thursday at the 800 block of S. Seventh Street and Ross Avenue. Firefighters contained the fire within five to 10 minutes after arriving on scene. Assistant Chief with the Waco Fire Department Patrick Kerwin said the residents of the house, two adults and an infant, were not at home at the time of the fire.

Baylor former football player Tevin Elliot was found guilty today of two counts of sexual assault.

Elliot had been charged with sexually assaulting a former Baylor student in 2012, and was suspended from the team indefinitely in August 2012.

The BAA board of directors will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Galloway Suite at Floyd Casey Stadium to discuss the possibility of refocusing the association’s mission.

Since the announcement of a $3 million donation for an athletes-only dinning hall, Baylor’s athletics department will have more than a new stadium to show off in fall 2014.
