The tragedies occurring in Boston on Monday and West on Wednesday have brought to light the several devastating things that can happen in societies not only across the world or in third-world countries, but also right here at home. My heart has gone out to the people who have suffered and are still suffering and it amazes me every day the generosity and kindness that human beings can show toward their fellow men and women.
I’m writing in response to a viewpoint column “Gun laws ridiculous; Texas should secede” that was published on April 12. In the column, the author presented a sarcastic case for gun control and Texas succession.

The FBI released photos and video Thursday of two suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing and asked for the public’s help in identifying them, zeroing in on the two men on surveillance-camera footage less than three days after the deadly attack.
The photos depict one man in a dark baseball cap and the other in a white cap worn backwards. The men were seen walking together in the crowd, and the one in the white hat was seen setting down a backpack at the site of one of the blasts, said Richard DesLauriers, FBI agent in charge in Boston.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott said the families affected by the blast have support from officials.

Following the news of the explosion in West, almost one hundred students and faculty from the Baylor community came together at a student organized candlelight vigil to pray outside of Waco Hall.
The vigil was started by Baylor Sophomore Class President Ben Prado, from Richardson, who tweeted to fellow classmates to meet him in front of Waco Hall at midnight. Prado purchased several candles and lighters and waited for students to join him.
There are confirmed casualties from the explosion in West, but not yet a confirmed number. According to some reports, the number could be as high as 70. Hundreds are injured.
The explosion occurred at West Fertilizer plant in West Wednesday night. Firefighters were responding to a fire at the plant when an explosion went off that rocked the small town. A four-block area around the explosion site is destroyed.

The No. 16 Baylor Lady Bears split its double header against the North Texas Mean Green after suffering a 5-3 loss in the first game, in which Baylor lost a 3-0 lead. Baylor did respond in the second game with a 2-1 win despite the continuing offensive struggles.
