After starting the season 6-0 and snagging the Battle 4 Atlantis Championship, junior forward Johnathan Motley received the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week title on Monday for the second time in his career. Baylor Men’s basketball continues in its winning ways, as the Bears clawed past Florida Gulf Coast University Friday night at the Ferrell Center, 81-72. Junior guard Manu Lecomte lead the Bears in scoring with 19 points, along with four assists and two steals. Senior forward Al Freeman, was close behind with 18 points and one assist. Baylor Volleyball hits the road this weekend as the Bears look to take on Kansas State. On Monday, junior outside hitter Katie Staiger and junior libero Jana Brusek were named this week’s Big 12 Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. It is the first time in Baylor volleyball history that the Bears had two players recognized on both offense and defense for the Big 12 conference.Staiger was awarded her second title as Offensive Player of the Week. Last week, Baylor football traveled to Houston, where the Bears battled and defeated Rice University 38-10. Redshirt freshman JaMycal Hasty dominated on offense and was named Newcomer of the Week by the Big 12 Conference. Hasty had 14 carries for a total of 105 yards, notching his first career 100-yard contest. Baylor women’s golf has been in action on the road this past week in Albuquerque, N.M., as the Lady Bears competed in the Dick McGuire Invitational. After Tuesday’s final round at the University of New Mexico, the Bears took third overall in the tournament. Shooting 5-under-par 283, the Bears finished just short behind Arizona State and Oklahoma State. Senior safety Orion Stewart was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week by conference officials on Monday. This is the first time the safety has been named the Defensive Player of the Week, making him the 16th Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week in the school’s history. Against SMU, Stewart had eight tackles, five on his own, and two interceptions. The second of the two interceptions, which occurred late in the third quarter, led to a 33-yard touchdown return. Senior running back Shock Linwood is only 107 yards away from becoming the all-time leading rusher in Baylor history.
