As the semester comes to a close, Chapel leaders Ryan Richardson and Burt Burleson took the opportunity to reflect on students’ time at Baylor thus far at this year’s last Chapel on Wednesday. Students in the audience were asked to move to the front section of the auditorium and engage in conversation with the two, answering questions about faith, their classes and their overall experience at a Christian university. The team began by noting that they had led 56 unique services over the course of this year and 168 in total across the three Chapel times offered. Burleson laughed when…

The Bobo Spiritual Life Center, along with the Waco Immigration Alliance, hosted a public deliberation forum on the topic of immigration in America Monday at 5 p.m. Students and Waco community members were encouraged to attend and discuss the matter. Erin Payseur, associate director of civic learning initiatives at Baylor, led the discussion and explained why she believes immigration is a topic to be concerned about. Baylor has held several public forums in the past, and after a September 2014 discussion on immigration led to unexpected fruitfulness, the department decided to host another. Payseur said although people who participate in…

As any graduating senior can tell you, your last semester as an undergrad can feel pressured, at the least. Spring semester, unlike the completely carefree, undaunting fall semester, is spent scouring LinkedIn for hidden connections, finalizing a resume and portfolio, and nailing down those last interviews before you finally secure your dream job. There are so many factors at play when thinking about…

On Tuesday night, two Baylor students served stacks of pancakes in exchange for stacks of cash. While many students are excited for beach trips and a lack of responsibility, Friendswood junior Maggie Geiler and Nashville, Tenn., sophomore Rachel West will spend their summer in Lesvos, Greece, serving Syrian refugees. Tuesday night’s personal fundraiser served to garner funds for their mission trip. The trip will take place through Antioch Community Church’s “Engage the Crisis” mission, a project built to assist the Syrian refugee crisis overseas. Missionaries will travel not only to Lesvos, also spelled “Lesbos,” but also to other countries across…

“I love New York but I could never live there.” It’s a phrase I’ve heard endlessly since I mentioned I was considering moving to the city post-grad. Along with it come the downsides of the tiny apartments, crowded streets and rude people. I completely understand that certain cities are more suited to certain people. Maybe you could never live in Los Angeles because you hate the beach, or humidity is your worst nightmare so South Louisiana is out. That’s not what I’m talking about here. The idea here is that I’ve found the majority of people with concern for my…

Every March 17, people across the world don their green, get out their pinching fingers and prepare their corned beef and cabbage in observance of St. Patrick’s Day. As Baylor students return from spring break, many take solace in the St. Patrick’s Day parties that will come the weekend after the holiday. However, few know the true origins of this holiday. Grapevine senior, Ally Moore said that even though she’s Catholic, she doesn’t necessarily know the whole story.“I know that he was the patron saint of Ireland, but my family uses it more of a way to get together and…

Quick poll: How many of you have felt personally victimized by business majors who didn’t think your degree in the arts was worthy? I am a journalism and international studies double major. I have homework every night, have held an internship every summer of college and have a career secured when I graduate in May. Why is it, then, when I talk to my pre-med or business major friends, that I feel inadequate? I know the education and fashion majors out there will agree with me when I say: It’s time we stop putting others down because their major doesn’t…

On Wednesday, Christians around the world celebrated Ash Wednesday, a day that marks the beginning of the Lenten season. The Baylor and Waco communities joined, holding services at Elliston Chapel and at various Catholic Churches around town. Lent is an important season not only for traditional Catholics, but for Christians of all denominations. Students of all disciplines give up things during this season. McGregor sophomore Sarah O’Connor said she plans to give up sweets, because she eats candy almost every night and it will be difficult for her to abstain. O’Connor and many Protestants like her participate in Lent to…

The Baylor in Saint Andrews program is only one of the many study abroad opportunities offered by the university, but this unique program is especially designed for “Baylor students who are interested in philosophy and religion and the intersection and manifestations in culture and history”, according to the Baylor study abroad website.
