Football and No. 11 soccer continued with their winning ways while No. 17 volleyball faced its first major challenge in conference play over the weekend. With ups and downs throughout the week, there was plenty of action in the world of Baylor sports. Let’s get into it.

FB holds off Colorado in Big 12 opener

Baylor football closed out its three-game homestand with its conference opener against Colorado. The game brought multiple anticipated appearances with Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, also known as “Coach Prime,” and the return of junior quarterback DJ Lagway from an ankle injury

The Bears donned their throwback uniforms with chrome helmets, getting praise from around the country as one of the best uniforms in college football for Week 4. The game was not as pretty as Baylor’s threads, holding off for a 23-13 win.

Lagway and the offense did not find a consistent rhythm, going 19-for-39 with 221 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. The defense is what shined for another week. The unit sacked the Buffs five times on Saturday, already surpassing last year’s mark of 12 total sacks. The Bears also forced Colorado starting quarterback Julian Lewis out of the game at halftime, giving way to Isaac Wilson.

No. 11 SOC adds a pair of conference Ws

It seems like each week No. 11 Baylor soccer rises in the rankings. Now on the brink of being in the top 10, the Bears continued to tack on a pair of wins.

Baylor came into the week on the heels of a road draw against then-No. 10 West Virginia, ending its five-match win streak. The Bears went right back to their winning ways against Oklahoma State on Thursday. Junior midfielder Noelle Sather scored the game-winning goal in the 55th minute to defeat the Cowgirls 2-1. The goal came in her return from representing Canada in the FIFA U20 World Cup.

Senior forward Lauren Onholt continued to display why she is one of the top scorers in the nation. Her 48th-minute goal proved to be the decider against Cincinnati on Sunday. Baylor earned its second 2-1 victory of the week to improve to 9-1-1 and 2-0-1 in conference play, ranking second in the Big 12.

No. 17 VB drops pair in Utah

No. 17 Baylor volleyball (8-4) faced its first major hurdle in Big 12 play on its Utah road trip. The Bears headed to Provo to face off against No. 22 BYU on Friday night. The Cougars jumped out to a 2-0 set lead over Baylor, but it came back to force a decisive fifth set. BYU ended up winning, but the Bears set a Big 12 record for the highest hitting percentage in a five-set match with a .393 mark.

Baylor continued its trip in Salt Lake City, facing Utah on Sunday. The Bears started off strong like they did on Friday, recording a .591 hitting percentage in their first-set win. The Utes controlled the match the rest of the way. They won the final three set to hand Baylor back-to-back losses for the first time in 2026.

Football hits the road to take on Arizona State at 9:30 p.m. Saturday. Soccer faces off against Kansas at 7 p.m. Friday at Betty Lou Mays Field. Volleyball looks to get back in the win column against UCF at 7 p.m. Friday and Colorado at 2 p.m. Sunday, both at the Ferrell Center.

While Baylor fans already have enough to be excited about, get ready to see some reasonable temperatures for once later this week.
