Baylor’s football season is rapidly approaching. With a program-record eight home games, this season is appropriately appointed with the slogan “This is Bear Country.” The Baylor Athletics mantra is being reintroduced to promote unity among students, alumni and local fans.

According to a Baylor Athletics press release, “‘This is Bear Country’ unites fans to continue to support Baylor with a distinct home-field advantage. Bear Country represents the best that the Waco community has to offer. From tailgates to touchdowns, Bear Country is a place for everyone.”

As the Bears’ Sept. 2 kickoff against Texas State University inches closer, many new lines of athletic apparel and game day accessories are being released. One of the most notable lines is the “This is Bear Country” game day collection, which includes high-quality gear and accessories developed by renowned brands like Nike, Champion and IGLOO.

The “This is Bear Country” collection marks the first collaboration between Baylor and IGLOO, with a newly-designed cooler made specifically for tailgating. Bears fans can find this merchandise at the campus bookstore as well as McLane Stadium once football season begins.

“As we continue our commitment to enhancing the Baylor brand with specialty apparel and products, it’s exciting to see a vision that has been months in the making come to life,” Jovan Overshown, deputy athletics director and chief revenue officer, said.

There’s still more to come for fans looking to represent the green and gold.

“With our continued focus on ‘Going Gold’ at select games, we are always working to make sure there is a variety of gold options in the marketplace,” Courtney Scrivano, assistant AD for brand partnerships for the department of athletics, said.

With new teams entering the Big 12 conference and the excitement behind the upcoming football season, Scrivano said now is the time to show opponents what they’re walking into when stepping into Waco.

“We are the only school with eight home football games in 2023,” Scrivano said. “It’s a little bit of a friendly warning to those who will be visiting us on our home turf this year.”
