After only six seasons in the National Football League and five of those seasons as a starter, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has the potential of being the greatest quarterback to ever play the game.

Mahomes and the Chiefs knocked off the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 in the 2023 Super Bowl. Mahomes was 21 for 27 on passes and accounted for 182 yards through the air to go with three touchdowns and zero interceptions. Those numbers helped Mahomes become the Super Bowl’s Most Valuable Player this year.

After the win, Mahomes has now won two Super Bowl titles, earning the game’s MVP award in both contests. He’s also won two league MVP awards and has been selected to five Pro Bowls, along with numerous other accomplishments.

With those statistics alone after just six seasons, Mahomes would undeniably be a first-ballot hall of fame selection if he were to retire today at 27 years old.

The greatest of all time conversation constantly centers around accomplishments, and one quarterback that has set the bar for all others is none other than former New England Patriot and Tampa Bay Buccaneers slinger Tom Brady.

Brady is a seven-time Super Bowl Champion who also has three league MVPs following 23 seasons in the NFL.

Brady racked up those accomplishments after a massive amount of playing time, while Mahomes already has close numbers with only five true seasons as a starting quarterback.

Mahomes has also done what many other people have deemed impossible. The former Texas Tech University quarterback is the first player to have won the league MVP and a Super Bowl in the same year since 1999 when Kurt Warner did it with the St. Louis Rams. The previous nine league MVPs to get to the Super Bowl lost to the eventual world champion.

Mahomes is also the tenth player to win multiple league MVPs. All the others are either in the NFL Hall of Fame or on track to get there.

At only 27 years old and still on the front end of a 10-year contract, there are many things looking up for him to continue his incredible NFL career despite the odds of losing star wide receiver Tyreek Hill to free agency.

Many great quarterbacks are beginning to play into their late 30s and well into their 40s. Mahomes also has a great support system with the offensive mind of head coach Andy Reid and the go-to target of tight end Travis Kelce.

The Kansas City Chiefs do not have many key players up for a new deal, meaning that many of them are locked in with the team for the foreseeable future.

Mahomes has already held up the Vince Lombardi Trophy twice now, but with the way things are going, don’t be surprised to see it soon as he enters the conversation of the best player to ever step foot on the gridiron.
