Team Sic ‘Em defeated Team BU 14-13 in overtime in Baylor football’s annual Green & Gold Spring Game Saturday afternoon at McLane Stadium.

Originally scheduled to play an eight minute third quarter and a full-length fourth quarter, an hour long lightning delay shortened the game to just a 15-minute fourth quarter.

Prior to the start of the game, head coach Matt Rhule announced awards for spring practice. Junior wide receiver Marques Jones (academic award), junior tight end Cody George (FCA award), junior defensive tackle Michael Johnson (community service award), junior offensive lineman Christian Beard (walk-on award), senior defensive end Xavier Jones (spirit award), senior tight end Jamie Jacobs (offensive most improved), and senior safety Verkedric Vaughns (defensive most improved).

Team BU started with the ball, and sophomore quarterback Charlie Brewer completed a 64-yard touchdown pass to Jones to put Team BU up 7-0 at the 14:23 mark.

On a fourth-and-three near midfield, freshman quarterback Gerry Bohanon completed a pass to senior receiver Russell Morrison to extend Team Sic ‘Em’s drive with seven minutes remaining.

After a sack from junior defensive tackle Bravvion Roy, Bohanon couldn’t find Morrison on a fourth down pass as Team BU got the ball back with under six minutes remaining.

Team Sic ‘Em sent out sophomore quarterback Preston Heard to replace Bohanon with three minutes remaining, and Heard led Team Sic ‘Em to the red zone with 17 seconds left. Heard finished the job with a 19-yard touchdown pass to sophomore receiver R.J. Sneed to tie the game at 7-7 and send it into overtime.

Team Sic ‘Em started with the ball in overtime on Team BU’s 25-yard line and converted with junior quarterback Zack Bennema tossing an 8-yard touchdown pass to Jacobs to give Team Sic ‘Em a 14-7 lead.

Sophomore running back John Lovett came through for Team BU with a 16-yard rushing touchdown to make it 14-13. Team BU opted to go for two to win the game, but Bohanon was sacked to end the game.

A large portion of the Bears’ receiving corps did not participate in the spring game due to various injuries. Senior Chris Platt, sophomore Gavin Holmes, junior Tony Nicholson, junior Pooh Stricklin, junior Denzel Mims and senior Jalen Hurd were all held out of the game.

The Bears open the 2018 season against Abilene Christian on Saturday, Sept. 1 at McLane Stadium.
