Each year, Baylor throws a community-wide celebration to honor the first home football game. Fountain Mall will be overrun with the Golden Wave Marching Band, spirit squads and a few 2017 Baylor Bear football players. A Judah & the Lion concert will start at 8 p.m. with fireworks to follow. There will also be collection pods for Hurricane Harvey Relief on 5th street near the Traditions Rally.

For the first Friday of every month, businesses in downtown Waco come together to offer extended store hours and special deals for locals and visitors. Sweet stops like Steel City Pops and boutiques like Wildland Supply Co. will be some of the 24 participants. Lomelda Concert at Pinewood Coffee Bar

Westfest: Friday Night Preview Party

The Friday Night Preview Party will kick-off the annual Labor Day weekend West, Texas Czech and Polka festival. Roger Cregar will perform at 8 p.m. and Kevin Fowler will perform at 10 p.m.

Waco Downtown Farmers Market

Open mic with a Baylor professor

Robert Darden, journalism department professor and director of Baylor’s Black Gospel Music Restoration Project, will present “Deep River: Enduring Words of the Slave Poets” at the HOT Poet Society meeting and open mic.
