While Baylor fans have been awaiting the upcoming football season, the Golden Wave Marching Band has been in preparation for weeks.

The band has been a Baylor tradition for the past 100 years and with that tradition comes a high level of pressure and expectation. While their biggest performance occurs at halftime, they are also expected to keep the stadium loud and the Baylor spirit high the entire game.

“We are out there for them playing our hearts out just for them,” said head Drum Major Walker Karstens. “We are there for their entertainment, and we love seeing as many people in the stands as we can during halftime, so hold up for your nachos, at least until the band is done!”

Unlike most small college bands, the Golden Wave Band has over 300 members and continues to increase in size every year.

“We’ve always had at Baylor a much higher percentage of people involved in the program and I think that speaks a lot to the kind of program it is,” said Director of Golden Wave Marching Band, Dr. Isiah Odijima. “I think students enjoy it and recognize that we do it at a high level; they perform really well.”
