WACO — A coroner has ruled the death of a Baylor University student whose body was found in a burning car was a suicide.

The body of 18-year-old freshman William David Patterson of San Antonio was discovered Feb. 9 in a vehicle near Waco.

Initial autopsy results were released Wednesday by a McLennan County justice of the peace. The report found that Patterson died of thermal burns and smoke inhalation.

    Toxicology test results are pending.

Patterson graduated from Churchill High School in San Antonio. He was studying film and digital media at Baylor.
