    Nine first-place awards add to Lariat accolades

    The 2010 Lariat staff won 14 regional awards from the Society of Professional Journalists this past weekend, including nine first-place awards:

    First Place

    Best Affiliated Web Site, Lariat staff (baylorlariat.com)
    General News Photography, Daniel Cernero (Chet Edwards ousted – second photo)
    Feature Photography, Makenzie Mason (The Sound of Devotion – first photo in football spread)
    Sports Column Writing, Matt Larsen & Chris Derrett (2010 columns – sample 1, sample 2, sample 3)
    Breaking News Reporting, Lariat staff (Student storms UT, kills self)
    Online In-Depth Reporting, Lariat staff (Generation Y)
    Sports Writing, Justin Baer (No. 1 Duke ends Bears’ run)

    Second Place

    Earlier this year, Baylor’s student publications received numerous accolades from the 2011 Texas Intercollegiate Press Association conference.
