Perry Jones III suspended by NCAA

Freshman Perry Jones III is suspended from tonight’s Big 12 tournament game between Baylor and Oklahoma for violations committed before enrollment at Baylor, an official Baylor release stated.

Jones did not know of three loans his mother received from an AAU club basketball coach while Jones was in high school. Baylor officials and NCAA staff interviews revealed his mother repaid the loans “in a timely manner.”

Jones’ coach also paid for Jones to travel to San Diego to see a preseason professional football game.

Nobody associated with Baylor knew of the loans, and Baylor is cooperating with the NCAA in the investigation. Baylor is appealing to have Jones’ eligibility restored.

Junior Quincy Acy, who has grown accustomed to coming off the bench, will make the start against the Sooners.

Jones averaged 33.9 minutes and 13.9 points entering Wednesday. In Big 12 play he was scoring 15.6 per game and shooting 55.9 percent.
