At the end of the 2014 NFL owners meetings in Orlando, the Competition Committee voted on issues concerning player safety and officiating. But perhaps the most interesting issue was the one that didn’t make it to the voting phase — the banning of the n-word.

While the editorial board does not condone his lifestyle, we support Sam’s right to play in the NFL, and this situation pertains to his right to work, not the morality of his lifestyle.
It is time for the NFL to look beyond sexual orientation in its players.

One of the great things about sports is its ability to draw on fans’ emotions to an extent some people will never understand. People cheer when their team does well. Some people cry or yell at their television when their team does poorly. Sports can be our escape.

Major League Baseball’s spring training has started, and St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols, arguably the best baseball player in the United States, has all the analysts talking once again. But it’s not about his home runs or off-the-field humanitarian acts — the most heated topic of debate questions whether Pujols is worth the $30 million per year he wants for the next 10 years.
