Lightning lengthened and then cut short No. 14 Baylor softball’s home matchup against Texas State Tuesday, but not before the Bears took a 4-1, five-inning win into the locker room.

The No. 15 Lady Bears improved on their Big 12 record, now 7-3, as they swept the Kansas Jayhawks in a two-game series in Lawrence, Kan., last weekend.

The Baylor softball team defeated the Missouri Tigers 3-2 with a walk-off sac-fly to right center on Saturday; however, it could not maintain this momentum as it went into Sunday’s game, losing 6-0.

Last weekend the battle between the No. 17 Baylor and No. 21 Texas A&M softball teams proved how tough conference play will be in 2011 as they split the series, both with walk-off home runs. Baylor took the first game Saturday, 2-1, in 11 innings and Texas A&M took the second, 6-5.

Even though the Lady Bears softball team seemed to lack focus in the second game of their doubleheader against Prairie View A&M on Tuesday, Baylor run-ruled the Lady Panthers 8-0 in the fifth inning.

After 14 straight wins by the Baylor Lady Bears, the streak was snapped in a pitchers’ dual Sunday against the University of Houston Cougars, falling 1-0.

In the nightcap of a double-header on Friday night, the Lady Bears showed they could win games in more than just one way. In most of their games this year, the Lady Bears won with dominant pitching and hitting. While the pitching still remained masterful in this one, the Lady Bears found a way to score even when not hitting the ball all over the field like they have been accustomed to this season.

The Lady Bears’ (5-0) next victory will be not just No. 6 on the young season, but also head coach Glenn Moore’s 400th win at Baylor.
