“I would say that these traditions really [are] what builds our strong sense of community here at Brooks,” Henry said. “We’re always experiencing life together, and it’s really sweet to see.”

Throughout his years at Brooks, Sriram said he and his wife have had enlightening conversations with residents on deep topics such as relationships and marriage. By interacting with the students on this level, Sriram said he and his family serve as a sort of second family for many students.
Five Baylor students and two Baylor-associated organizations received recognition for their volunteer work at the Mission Waco Mission World banquet Tuesday.
The students won Volunteer of the Year awards. Brooks Residential College and Zeta Zigga Zamma received special recognition.
The awards give the nonprofit a chance to recognize its volunteers, said Seth Dorrell, director of Mission World and volunteer director.
Brooks Residential College is mad about energy, and it shows in this fall’s Energy Madness Competition results.
Brooks Residential College won the Fourth four-week Energy Madness Competition. Brooks Residential Flats, an apartment complex owned by Baylor, placed second, only one point behind the winner.
14 teams competed in the fall 2012 competition with 15 residence halls. Allen and Dawson residence halls competed as one team and the other residence halls competed individually. Clare Paul, marketing manager for Baylor Facilities & Energy, said the competition has gradually received more participation each year.
When Baylor opens its newest dining hall, East Village, in the fall of 2012, students might have to bid adieu to one of the current dining halls. At a March 27 town hall meeting, Baylor administrators told a group of students the university might close an existing dining hall after East Village Residential Community opens in August. The two dining halls considered for removal, said Dr. Jeff Doyle, dean for student learning and engagement, are Collins and Memorial. Penland would more likely receive a renovation, and Brooks would not close because of its importance to the Brooks community.
Administrators are considering closing one of the campus dining halls after the new East Village Residential Community dining hall opens in August 2013, a Baylor dean told a group of students Monday.
The shortest commute at Baylor may belong to the master and associate master of Brooks Residential College, Dr. Douglas Henry and his wife Dr. Michelle Henry.
The friendly rivalry between the Honors Residential College and Brooks Residential College will go public on Saturday.
While safety may be a concern for students on campus late at night, Campus Living & Learning provides a free shuttle service from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. for all on-campus residents. The shuttle is a golf cart driven by one of six safety and security education officers.
Eight Brooks Residential College residents will be running the Bearathon in support of Ellia Gibson, a 3-year-old Wacoan girl with a rare genetic condition.
aylor has recently pulled out all the stops in its efforts to create a sustainable and picturesque campus. From the demolition of Ivy Square to the newest plans to fill in the roads surrounding of Fountain Mall, students have been subjected to the forces of the administration who are determined to fulfill the Baylor 2012 imperatives calling for “useful and aesthetically pleasing physical spaces” in order to “create a truly residential campus.”
Current residential college students will lead tours during Saturday’s Winter Premiere to help assist prospective students decide where to live.
