The Lady Bears won their fourth straight regular season conference title after beating the Iowa State Cyclones 70-54 Tuesday night in Ames, Iowa. The title is shared with No. 7 West Virginia. It is only the Mountaineers’ second year in the Big 12 conference, and they are already sharing the title with one of the most elite college programs in women’s basketball today.

Students can expect huge changes in campus dining by the start of the fall semester. Penland Food Court will undergo a full-scale renovation, said Brett Perlowski, the director of dining services at Baylor. The No. 5 Baylor equestrian team suffered two losses during the weekend, dropping its record to 8-5. The Bears fell 11-9 to No. 7 Kansas State University and 11-7 to No. 4 Oklahoma State University. Both meets were on the road for the Bears.
“We went into these meets knowing they were an uphill battle, but I am still pleased with our performance,” head coach Ellen White said.
Two Baylor master of science in computer science students are gunning for the top price against 11 other finalists in the third annual Baylor New Venture Competition.
The event will take place this weekend during a two-day competition where teams will pitch their business plans and ideas to a panel of judges posing as potential investors. The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of $25,000 and other support services.

As a newbie to the tradition hype that is All-University Sing, it certainly has been interesting to observe the Baylor culture in this way: guys in eyeliner studying in the library, girls complaining about late nights and the overarching sense of competition in the fresh February air.

Judges look at five main elements — entertainment value, musical quality, choreography, theme development and creativity. While most top acts have a solid combination of all five, there is often one that dominates the others — an exceptional soloist, a never-before-seen dance trick or maybe a tear-jerking theme.
Every year as the All-University Sing competition draws near, the Baylor campus readies itself for a festival of music, culture and memorable performances. The nights are filled with wonder as performances crafted over six weeks of intense preparation are realized on stage.
When Rico Gathers steps on a basketball court, everyone takes notice. Even on the biggest stage of college basketball, the sophomore is physically a man-among-boys at 6-foot-8 and 270 pounds.
“Every football coach in the area wanted me to come and play football for them back in high school,” Gathers said. “It was actually a big controversy in my area. When I chose a school that didn’t have football at all, people were like dang, what are you going to do if things don’t work out?”

Baylor baseball opened the season in dramatic fashion, coming from behind 7-2 to beat the No. 19 Arizona State Sun Devils 9-7 Friday. The rest of the series shaped up to be much different for the Bears (1-2, 0-0), who went on to lose the series 2-1 after a 7-4 loss on Saturday and a 12-1 result on Sunday at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark in Tempe, Ariz.
