After being recognized by the Sierra Club for its green efforts, Baylor Sustainability seems to be on a roll and defying environmental obstacles of all kinds, but the biggest challenge may be yet to come — the re-education of the Baylor community on sustainable living.

This semester brings new approaches to facilitating practical methods of fulfilling the mission of the Department of Sustainability. Smith Getterman, assistant director of sustainability and special projects, said the department’s approach to sustainable practices will appeal to any lifestyle.

Glorifying God by preserving his earth — that’s the idea behind the Sustainability Student Advisory Board.

The board is a group of students who provide feedback to the university through the sustainability coordinator and share their ideas about sustainability at Baylor in an effort to improve green efforts on campus, said Smith Getterman, sustainability coordinator.

Getterman shares the students’ opinions with the University Sustainability Committee, which works to achieve university-wide sustainability goals.

Baylor is getting greener all the time.

Sustainability coordinator Smith Getterman and the Baylor Sustainability Committee have seen to that.

Both Getterman and the sustainability committee will continue to work for improvement, although great strides have been made so far. The campus became Styrofoam-free at the beginning of the semester.
