On April 17, 2013, the West Fertilizer Plant was holding 40 to 60 tons of ammonium nitrate and exploded with the force of 20,000 tons of TNT. The blast caused houses in the surrounding areas to be completely destroyed, along with a nursing home and a school.

Wednesday marked the 10th anniversary of the Honors College’s presence on campus.
The Honors College was established as part of the Baylor 2012 initiative in the fall of 2002, uniting the Honors Program, University Scholars, Baylor Interdisciplinary Core and Great Texts under the direction of a single dean.
“There was a bit of anxiety about how this was all going to work together,” said Dr. Thomas Hibbs, Dean of the Honors College.
When Baylor alumni talk about their experiences in the Honors College, one word continues to come up: Impact.
The Honors College, a collection of two majors, great texts and University Scholars, and two programs, Baylor Interdisciplinary Core and the Honors Program, is celebrating its 10th anniversary.
Almost 350 students live in the Honors Residential College.
