With nothing to lose, No. 25 Baylor women’s basketball put No. 1 UCLA on the ropes early, but dominant post-play by the Bruins kept them undefeated, taking down the Bears, 72-57, in the inaugural Coretta Scott King Classic Monday afternoon at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
Being a college athlete is incredibly mentally challenging but what most people don’t realize is what all goes into being great and making it within the ecosystem of student athletes.
The Bears hosted NCAA singles and doubles individual championships, separate from team championships for the first time, in November.
Adversity can oftentimes rattle and break the morale of teams. This is not the case, though, head coach Michael Woodson and Baylor men’s tennis. They have learned from their first-round postseason exit against San Diego last year and are hungry to take on the 2025 season after a dominant fall.

Texas voters turned out in historic numbers Tuesday, delivering victories for State Rep. James Talarico and forcing a runoff between Attorney General Ken Paxton and incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in the state’s U.S. Senate contest that claimed national attention. The total early-voting turnout of more than 2.5 million marks the highest ever for a midterm primary election. The results also kicked off the 2026 midterm cycle.
