Science purports to have solved the proverbial question of whether infinite monkeys clacking away at typewriters could recreate Shakespeare’s works. They haven’t.
The Baylor Business Selling Outside competition is one of five in-school competitions ProSales majors take part in each year. This year, 136 ProSales majors role-played a scenario in which they represented a technology firm attempting to provide a software product to a beleaguered HR department.
The course is not discipline-specific, but “student-specific,” Senior Lecturer of biology and course instructor Tammy Adair said. Though the course is open for any student to register for, the Office of Engaged Learning sends out calls to professors for recommendations in order to select students with interests and ambitions that the course specifically tackles. Many of the students who take it are nominated.
Dr. Eric Ames, associate director for advancement, exhibits and community engagement at Baylor’s Texas Collection, said in an email that this tour gives people a chance to view Waco history at a ground level through the streets of downtown as well as through the viewpoint of the Black experience.

An explosion caused by a fire at a fertilizer plant shocked the city of West tonight. A fire at a fertilizer plant outside of the city of West caused an explosion that rocked the small town causing fires and severe damage to nearby buildings. A nursing home burned to the ground, but everyone inside the building was evacuated. An independent school in the area was partially burned. A house was also destroyed.
An explosion Wednesday night at a fertilizer plant near Waco sent flames shooting high into the night sky, leaving the factory a smoldering ruin, causing major damage at nearby buildings and injuring numerous people.
The blast at the plant in West, a community north of Waco, happened shortly before 8 p.m. and could be heard as far away as Waxahachie, 45 miles to the north.
Authorities say an explosion at a fertilizer plant near Waco, Texas, has injured several people.
A dispatcher with the West, Texas, Fire Department says the explosion happened Wednesday night at a fertilizer plant in the community north of Waco. She says any casualties would be taken to hospitals in Waco.
At 8:29 a.m., Temple High School officials called in a shooting which took place on the exterior of the campus building, according to Brad Sheffield, the school’s director of communications.
The shooting, according to Sheffield, was isolated to one self-inflicted shot. The school immediately went into lockdown to check for any other threats inside the school that has 2,000 students.

“Since July 1st, Baylor’s campus has had nine positives out of 48 tests,” Stern said. “And in the last month alone, we have had seven positives out of 29 tests, which is almost a 25% positivity rate.”

Lilia Gonzalez, director of nurses, said Health Services would remain available to monitor potential measles outbreaks and help students. Though the Texas measles outbreak has ended, Health Services continues providing preventative measures for other potential outbreaks.
