Laura McNutt, assistant director of advising in Baylor’s College of Arts and Sciences, died April 17 at her home in Waco after a three-year battle with colon cancer. She was 38.
The legacy of the blue-and-white building on 25th Street, the authentic Honduran restaurant Antojitos Centroamericanos, continues, now reopened as Rosita’s. The restaurant is renamed in honor of the late owner, Rosa Rodriguez, and her impact on her family and community.
After winning the semifinals in March, Baylor’s a cappella team VirtuOSO traveled to New York City for the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) Finals on Saturday. This marks a huge milestone in the team’s journey and paves the way for VirtuOSO’s future in the coming years.
Across Baylor’s campus, students are taking action to live more sustainably, whether through personal habits, volunteer opportunities or launching campus initiatives.

From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, zookeepers at the Cameron Park Zoo rarely get a moment off their feet, spending the vast majority of their time training and caring for the more than 1,700 animals across over 300 species currently housed within the zoo’s boundaries.
In partnership with Waco Habitat for Humanity, Amy’s Attic will host its first “Cars for a Cause” event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at 1821 South New Road. The event will include a car show along with local food trucks and vendors, raising funds for the humanitarian efforts of Habitat for Humanity.
Lane Murphy, director of marketing and communications for the School of Engineering and Computer Science, and Amy Murphy, lecturer in the School of Social Work, bought the church building to try to preserve it as a historic landmark of the Black community.
Most are aware that giving a friend or family the ceremony they deserve requires the forking over of a sizable check — one that could easily cover a car or a year of rent. But it takes more than cash to make it happen, and among these other things is a form of capital people often take for granted: relationships. And for those who lack both, the days after death are not a story often told.

“Since July 1st, Baylor’s campus has had nine positives out of 48 tests,” Stern said. “And in the last month alone, we have had seven positives out of 29 tests, which is almost a 25% positivity rate.”

Texas voters turned out in historic numbers Tuesday, delivering victories for State Rep. James Talarico and forcing a runoff between Attorney General Ken Paxton and incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in the state’s U.S. Senate contest that claimed national attention. The total early-voting turnout of more than 2.5 million marks the highest ever for a midterm primary election. The results also kicked off the 2026 midterm cycle.
