The women’s and gender studies program is hosting “Living in a Barbie World: A Panel Discussion” on Oct. 10. Three Baylor professors will discuss the movie of the year: the glittering phenomenon in pink that is “Barbie.”
The authors featured in this year’s panel were Dr. Greg Garrett, professor of English, and Dr. Robert Jones, president and founder of the Public Religion Research Institute.
Through a fundraising event called Wildtorch, local nonprofit Jesus Said Love is fighting to free women from a history of sexual exploitation in Waco that dates back to 1889.

A federal judge has refused to grant an order sought by Occupy Dallas demonstrators to prevent the city from closing their campsite.
Baylor has more than 15 official student organizations dedicated specifically to service, numerous fraternities and sororities that require members to volunteer, and various other opportunities for students to get out into the community and lend a helping hand. However, not all students choose to actively volunteer in the community.

Once news headlines began appearing about Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and how his wife were removed from Venezuela, most people scratched their heads in confusion, wondering where the news came from and why it happened.
“Parents have a significant impact on the value system and the ideological system that children develop over time. We’re all impacted by the messages that we hear growing up in our parents’ home,” McAninch said.
Ramsey is a sophomore from Waco studying economics and international studies in Arabic. Ramsey went to Amman, Jordan, with Qasid, an Arabic Institute Program running from June through August. But she didn’t suspect the challenges and conflicts that would occur in the coming days.
