The Office of Transfer Student Success offers notable resources to help transfer students get involved in the Baylor community and achieve success in academics. Its main purpose is to combat transfer shock by providing events and meetings to support them from arrival to graduation.

Dr. Bill Neilson, a 1976 graduate of Baylor, is also a senior lecturer and clinical professor of decision science in the Honors College. Neilson, who graduated with a degree in chemistry, is a surgeon and longtime health professional with an interest in medical missions.

For the first time, students from Baylor and the University of Houston who are attending the same class, Sales for Social Impact, at different schools will participate together in the Mission Waco/Mission World poverty simulation this weekend.

Former Baylor student and Baylor football defensive end Tevin Elliott was indicted on three counts of sexual assault Monday by a McLennan County grand jury.

A Bill of Indictment was filed Monday stating that Elliott was indicted for two counts of sexual assault involving a single victim. Jason Darling, Elliott’s attorney, said Elliot was also indicted on a count of sexual assault involving a different victim in November 2009, but not arrested in connection with the incident. The indictment record relating to this incident is sealed to the public.

Anthony Johnson, a 43-year-old Waco resident, has been charged in connection with the death of Richard Watson. Watson, a 54-year-old Waco resident, was pronounced dead August 22 at Hillcrest Hospital. It was the third killing this year in Waco.

Texas voters turned out in historic numbers Tuesday, delivering victories for State Rep. James Talarico and forcing a runoff between Attorney General Ken Paxton and incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in the state’s U.S. Senate contest that claimed national attention. The total early-voting turnout of more than 2.5 million marks the highest ever for a midterm primary election. The results also kicked off the 2026 midterm cycle.

The Iran war is now in its 46th day. Iran responded by restricting access to Hormuz, which carries about a fifth of the world’s seaborne oil, and moving to toll vessels transiting the strait. Waco drivers are already feeling it. The local average hit $3.38 a gallon last week, up 21 cents in seven days and 75 cents year-over-year, according to AAA data.

Gas prices in Texas have surged more than 70 cents per gallon since the U.S. went to war with Iran three weeks ago. The near-total shutdown of the Strait of Hormuz has driven oil prices up more than 40%, pushing the national average to its highest point since 2023 and sending diesel past $5 for the first time in three years.

The largest U.S. military operation in the Middle East in decades unfolded as American and Israeli forces struck Iran Saturday, killing its supreme leader and triggering retaliatory strikes from the Gulf to Israel. The White House said the campaign is aimed at dismantling Iran’s military and toppling its government.
