This year’s freshman class may expect to have a difficult time deciding who to vote for on Sept. 12 at the freshman elections. About 40 candidates hope to fill the positions open to freshmen in Student Government. The candidates come from different backgrounds and majors, but each one possesses the desire to serve their classmates through Student Government.

Mitt Romney launched his fall campaign for the White House in a Republican National Convention finale Thursday night, declaring “what America needs is jobs, lots of jobs” and promising he has a plan to create 12 million of them.

Texas voters turned out in historic numbers Tuesday, delivering victories for State Rep. James Talarico and forcing a runoff between Attorney General Ken Paxton and incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in the state’s U.S. Senate contest that claimed national attention. The total early-voting turnout of more than 2.5 million marks the highest ever for a midterm primary election. The results also kicked off the 2026 midterm cycle.
