Top-seeded Baylor women’s tennis was ready. The team didn’t need any help from doubles action, and while the threat of rain forced singles matches to be played first, the Bears did not miss a beat.

The Baylor tennis program is the host for this year’s Big 12 Championships, and both tennis teams are on a mission to win their second consecutive tournament titles this weekend in Waco.

The faces change, but the headlines stay the same for Baylor tennis. The men and women hoisted two Big 12 championship trophies last weekend as both teams ended the regular season as conference champions for the third consecutive year.

No. 8 Baylor women’s tennis will play for a share of another Big 12 championship this weekend as it hosts No. 72 Kansas and unranked Kansas State at the Hurd Tennis Center.

AUSTIN – The second-ranked Baylor Bears rolled over No. 10 Texas 4-1 at the Caswell Tennis Center in Austin Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Bears have won nine straight over the Longhorns in Austin, the last loss coming on April 22, 1999.

It’s the home stretch for No. 2 Baylor men’s tennis, and the Bears hit the road for their final two regular season conference matches. Baylor is still in the running for another Big 12 championship, but they are going to need to tighten up and focus in order to come away with the final two wins.

No. 7 Baylor women’s tennis snapped its two-match losing streak with a 4-0 win over No. 36 Texas Saturday afternoon at the Hurd Tennis Center. After getting off to a slow start in doubles and singles play, the Bears (20-6, 6-1 Big 12) got the clean sweep over the Longhorns.

No. 2 Baylor men’s tennis may not re enter conference play until later this week, but it didn’t stop the team from decimating Seminole State College. The Bears defeated the Trojans 7-0 on Tuesday evening at the Hurd Tennis Center for their 10th straight win at home.

No. 7 Baylor women’s tennis snapped a 20-match conference winning streak dating back to March 27, 2013 as the Bears dropped a 4-2 decision to then-No. 18 Texas Tech on Saturday afternoon in Lubbock.

No. 2 Baylor men’s tennis breezed through its competition last Sunday as the team blanked both Incarnate Word and the UT-Arlington 7-0 at the Hurd Tennis Center. Despite switching up the lineup during both matches, the Bears did not miss a beat in their Sunday doubleheader.

Baylor and TCU brought another form of the school rivalry to Waco this weekend as the sixth ranked Bears women’s tennis team fought off an early deficit to take down the No. 21-ranked Horned Frogs 4-1 Sunday afternoon at the Hurd Tennis Center.

The Baylor vs. TCU rivalry is alive and well, but for the No. 5 men’s tennis team, the argument is one sided. The Bears swept the Horned Frogs 4-0 Tuesday night at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center for their 15th-straight win over TCU.

As if one win wasn’t enough, then two wins must be a statement. The No. 5-ranked Baylor men’s tennis team defeated No. 11 Virginia 5-2 Sunday afternoon at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center for their second win over the Cavaliers in 15 days.

The faces change, but the headlines stay the same. The No. 5-ranked Baylor men’s tennis team has a lot of hardware in the trophy case entering this season with 20 Big 12 titles in the last 18 years, including 17-straight NCAA tournament appearances.

When head coach Joey Scrivano walks to his office in the morning, he passes a reminder of the success he and his women’s tennis teams have accomplished since he was hired as Baylor’s head coach in 2003. It’s not all about the hardware for Scrivano, though. It’s the process and culture that make the difference for the program.
