This was the case for Baylor volleyball’s match against LSU wednesday night at the Ferrell Center. By Nathan Keil | Sports EditorIt’s very easy to slip in and out of a large classroom without really being noticed. Attending every class session, taking copious notes, reflecting quietly on the material at your seat… most people in the class wouldn’t know any different if you were there or not. This was my undergraduate experience, at least with my professors. My school was small enough that I knew at least one person in all of my classes each semester, but my professors wouldn’t have noticed if I just decided not to show up. I did all the work, but…

By Nathan Keil | Sports EditorAt 5 feet 7 inches, Baylor senior libero Jana Brusek isn’t the tallest player on the volleyball court. In fact, she’s one of the shortest. But her petite, physical stature has not prevented her from playing big for three years for head coach Ryan McGuyre. In fact, her competitive yet tenderhearted nature packs quite a punch, something McGuyre said encompasses the heart of Baylor volleyball. “She definitely captures the spirit of Baylor volleyball. As far as having grit, playing hard and playing fast,” McGuyre said. “She is playing for the Lord and something bigger than…

By Nathan Keil | Sports Editor Following its successful 2016 season, Baylor volleyball will no longer be able to rely on the element of surprise. The Bears overcame a barrage of injuries to key contributors, including redshirt senior middle hitter Tola Itiola, redshirt sophomore hitter Shelly Fanning and redshirt freshman middle hitter Jaelyn Jackson, on their way to a fourth place finish in the Big 12 and earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2011. Not only did Baylor volleyball not let these disappointments derail its season, but used them to further develop its chemistry,…
