A how-to lesson with the Baylor Men’s Golf Team

On Monday, two members of the Baylor men’s golf team worked with me on improving my golf skills.

Junior Garrett May gave me his personal tips on how to choose the right club and hold a club.

“The more you play, the more you’ll get a feel of how hard you hit with every club and the more you’ll feel different winds, different conditions and different temperatures,” Garrett said.

“It’s a working knowledge of how the environment will affect how far the golf ball will travel,” May said. “It’s a guessing game, really, but you try to make it as much of a science as possible.”

Sophomore Cooper Dossey taught me how to putt, chip and drive a golf ball.

“Chipping is probably the most important aspect in my game, it just takes a lot of practice and a lot of hours out there trying to get it,” Dossey said.

Some people consider golf quite difficult to play because it can be based on feeling and experience. The longer you play golf, the better you will get at estimating what club you need and how you should hit the ball for each play.

If you’d like to watch the Baylor men’s golf team put these skills to work, they will compete in the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate in Alabama all day on Monday, Oct. 9th.
