The mass shooting in Las Vegas that occurred late Sunday night has made an impact on people across the nation and even some at Baylor.
Las Vegas junior, Emmie Weddell was born and raised in Las Vegas and said when she woke up to the news on Monday, her heart dropped.
“When it’s at your home, it’s a lot more personal,” Weddell said. “And it’s devastating when it happens anywhere, but you feel the effects cut more deeply when it happens somewhere you have seen and somewhere you have been to people that you know and love.”
The mass shooting has also caused security concerns at other large festivals and gatherings like the Austin City Limits (ACL) music festival in Austin that takes place from Oct. 6 –15.
The producers of ACL said in a statement that safety has always been a top priority at the festival.
“Over the years, tighter security measures have been implemented at ACL Fest, including a layered security plan that includes elements that are seen and unseen, as well as pat downs, bag searches and size limits, and an enhanced security and law enforcement presence inside and outside the festival,” the statement read.
Austin sophomore, Maya Adams said the events in Las Vegas won’t keep her from attending the festival — though she will be aware of her surroundings.
“I hope that this doesn’t throw off too many people from going and doing the things that they want to do with their life because I don’t think that we should be terrified of living,” Adams said.
Producers of ACL also told other media organizations that ticket refunds are available for those who no longer wish to attend the festival.
