The Baylor soccer team (7-2-2, 1-1-1) tied with the Oklahoma Sooners (2-8-2, 0-1-1) Friday night at John Crain Field. The women ended the night with 20 shots on goal, outshooting the Sooners 21-5, but were unable to get one into the net as the game ended in a scoreless tie.
Baylor freshman goalkeeper Jennifer Wandt had her fifth shutout of the season.
Oklahoma head coach Matt Potter said he was pleased with his freshman goalkeeper McKinley Crone’s performance when she came down the stretch.
“I thought McKinley Crone stood tall when she needed to stand tall,” Potter said on Oklahoma’s official athletic website. “She made the saves she was supposed to make. She’s wonderful in possession of the ball, and you can see that’s only going to grow, that ability to take things and get her job done. She’s had a very positive season thus far, and long may it continue.”
Baylor (7-3-2, 1-2-1) fell to No. 19 Oklahoma State Cowgirls (10-1-2, 3-0-0), 1-0 in a highly contested overtime game.
The Bears played its fourth-straight overtime match and its sixth of the season. This season the Bears have moved to 2-2-2 in extra time contests.
The Bears had a strong advantage in shots and offensive pressure consistently against the Cowgirls. Outshooting the Cowgirls 18-4, Baylor produced a plethora of unfinished opportunities. A late run and header goal by Oklahoma State sophomore midfielder Charme Morgan, put the Cowgirls ahead late in the game.
Baylor led in shots (18-13) and shots on goal (7-4), but after a 7-3 shot advantage in the first period, the Cowgirls caught up with the Bears, cutting Baylor’s shot advantage to 11-10 over the second period and overtime.
The Bears were handed its first loss in a true road game this season. Falling to 2-1-2 in away matches in the 2017 season.
Baylor returns home for a match with Texas Tech on Friday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m.
