The impressive part about Baylor soccer’s 3-0 win over Sam Houston State Friday night wasn’t the final score. It was that somehow, the Bears actually managed to dominate the game even more than the final tally.

Sophomore forward Vic Hoffman set the tone in the fifth minute, taking a pass from junior midfielder Hanna Gilmore and then beating the keeper for a 1-0 lead and her second career goal. Baylor’s control continued for the rest of the game.

Not only did senior goalkeeper Courtney Seelhorst record the shutout, but Baylor also held the Bearkats to zero total shots on the night. The Bears fired 20 shots, nine being on goal.

Not content with a 1-0 halftime lead, Bayor newcomer Justine Hovden took matters into her own hands in the 44th minute en route to her first career collegiate goal. The Lake Geneva, Wi., freshman midfielder dribbled around three defenders on the right side and buried a top shelf shot inside the far post.

The Bears’ offensive pressure paid off one last time in he 80th minute. Freshman midfielder Alexa Wilde recorded her first goal as a collegiate player, heading in a cross from the left side by senior forward Christine Clark.

Baylor will not play conference games on a weekly basis until a Sept. 16 matchup at Texas A&M, but it does have a Big 12 opponent this Sunday.
