No. 12 Baylor football leads 39-7 over the Kansas Jayhawks at halftime in McLane Stadium.

The Bears finished the half with 195 rushing yards and limited Kansas to none. Senior quarterback Bryce Petty threw for 166 yards to lead the Bears to 361 offensive yards compared to the Jayhawks’ 94 total first half yards.

Baylor was forced off the field in its opening drive with an early three-and-out but returned the favor to the Jayhawks. Petty threw a 72-yard touchdown pass to sophomore receiver Corey Coleman for a touchdown on their first play of the second drive. Freshman Chris Callahan nailed the extra point to put Baylor up 7-0 with 11:29 left in the opening quarter.

Junior defensive end Shawn Oakman forced a fumble and recovered the ball to bring the Baylor offense back on the field after three plays by Kansas. Sophomore running back Devin Chafin punched a 1-yard touchdown run in the end zone to extend Baylor’s lead 13-0.

Right after that, Kansas quarterback Michael Cummings threw a 36-yard pass to take the Jayhawks into Baylor territory. A 28-yard touchdown pass put Kansas on the board 13-7.

The Bears came back to the field and allowed sophomore running back Shock Linwood to soar over the offensive line for a Baylor touchdown, extending the lead 20-7.

Callahan added three field goals in the second quarter to give Baylor a 29-7 lead. Baylor defense and special teams forced fumbles and recovered the ball to keep the game in Kansas’ territory.

Chafin punched it in from one yard out late in the second quarter for a Baylor score to put the Bears up 36-7. Baylor wrapped up the half with another kick by Callahan to head into halftime with a 32-point lead.

Kansas will receive at the start of the second half.
