Baylor acrobatics and tumbling fell to Quinnipiac by a .56 margin on Sunday afternoon in the TD Banks Sports Center in Hamden, Conn.

“We had a great head-to-head meet that was close the entire time,” head coach LaPrise Harris-Williams said. “The meet kept us on our toes and neither team gave-up.”

Quinnipiac took the compulsory event 37.45 to 36.70. The Bears fought back, winning the acro event 26.90 to 24.87. Before halftime, Quinnipiac was strong in the pyramid event, winning 29.45 to 27.90.

After the half, Quinnipiac barely won the toss event 28.70 to 28.55. The Bears were about to pull out a win in the tumbling event 57.55 to 57.00. Freshman Kiara Nowlin received nearly a perfect score, with a 9.98 in the sixth element to help win tumbling.

Quinnipiac just edged out the Bears in the team routine 101.92 to 101.28. Quinnipiac’s victory was a narrow .56 margin with a score of 279.39 to 278.83.

Quinnipiac’s head coach Mary Ann Powers admitted the meet could have gone either way to Harris-Williams once it was all over.
“It’s hard being on the road and outside of your comfort zone, but our girls did a great job staying focused and keeping a strong mind,” Harris-Williams said.

Harris-Williams said it is important for the women to give their best effort and she believes they did on Sunday. The team has nearly three weeks before its next tri-meet against Azusa Pacific and Hawaii Pacific. Harris-Williams said the women would polish their skills and perfect what they already know.

The team’s next meet is against Azusa Pacific University and Hawaii Pacific University at 8:30 p.m. March 18 in Azusa, Calif.
