A fire at Elmwood Condominiums in Waco Tuesday afternoon was quickly contained, and no injuries were reported, according to Waco Fire Chief Robby Bergerson.

The Waco Fire Department was dispatched to 1915 South 10th Street at 3:51 p.m. after receiving a report of smoke in a home. Bergerson said the first arriving unit encountered heavy smoke, prompting officials to upgrade the call and request additional resources for an apartment fire.
The fire originated in the kitchen of one apartment, burning around the stove and cabinets above it. Smoke spread to four other units.
Firefighters quickly contained the blaze. The fire department will assess the building’s safety to determine whether residents can remain inside.
Argyle senior Chandler Johnson, who lives on South 10th Street, said she and her roommate were returning from golf class when they saw multiple fire trucks outside their home.

“We thought it was our house that was on fire,” Johnson said. “We were driving and the police officer told us there were no cars allowed on 10th Street, but we said, ‘This is our house, we need to get home.’”
Johnson said she saw smoke coming from the apartment complex and believed the fire was in one of the units farthest from the street.
